The Wilson Group, within the Host Microbe Interactions Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Miami uses insect models to study endosymbiosis. Endosymbiosis is old, and often essential for host reproduction and/or survival. All obligate endosymbionts face the challenge of evading host immunity while securing sufficient host resources to persist. All hosts of endosymbionts face the challenge of maintaining growth and reproduction - while housing an obligate endosymbiont. Work in the Wilson Group focuses on elucidating the mechanisms that operate at the host/symbiont interface to support host development, growth and symbiont transmission.
The Host Microbe Interactions (HoMI) Lab, part of the Symbiosis@UM Cluster, is located in Cox Science laboratories 248 and 253.
